The Iraqi Ministry of Trade has announced the conclusion of domestic wheat procurement in the southern governorates of the country, while procurement in the Kurdistan Region is set to begin on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Ministry noted, “The volume of wheat received in some areas exceeded expectations.” This increase has been attributed to farmers’ awareness and adherence to agricultural guidelines, as well as improvements in the quality of wheat production.
The Ministry of Trade declared, “Iraq is moving towards self-sufficiency in wheat, and it is anticipated that the amount of wheat procured this year will reach approximately five million tons.”
This follows yesterday’s announcement that three million and four hundred thousand tons of wheat had already been received.
Meanwhile, it has been decided that wheat procurement in the governorates of the Kurdistan Region will commence on Tuesday, June 10. A target of 400,000 tons has been set, and 11 silos have been prepared for this purpose.
The Ministry of Trade also stated that the price for one ton of wheat is set between 800,000 and 850,000 Iraqi dinars.
